Okay, I've been to my mosaic class and I did a really bitching (oh noes I've insulted female dogs! I've got human priviledge! WAAAH) border on a fish in pinky gold goldy pink and I'm a bit calmer now.

You can't win talking common sense to politicallycorrectzis. You just get a lot of fucking academic women's studies jargon back.

Common sense-someone said something crass and insensitive. I tore them a new one. They apologised. I got over it and got the fuck on with my life. It sucks but that's life and whoever said life was fair?

Politcally correct facist worldview-waah wahh I'm oppressed. I'm a special snowflake VICTIM. You're OPPRESSING ME YOU OPPRESSOR. It doesn't matter if the other party apologises. Because you see, their apology is worthless. Because they have priviledge. And they are Derailing. And somesuch bullshit.

When other kids said hurtful things about me my mother said to me sticks and stones blah blah blah. Basically what she said was in a slightly nicer way-get the fuck over it. People are mean. better learn to live with it or you'll spend your life cowering in a corner weeping. Not enough American mothers impart such robust common sense to their younglings, I think. Because this is a pretty darn Yank thing.

Life is unfair. People have prejudiced ugly opinions. You have to live with it. No you shouldn't have to, but the fact is you do. Cause that's the way it fucking is and it's never going to be any different.

Get over it.

No doubt the people there think I'm every ist and phobic in the book. When in fact I'm all for tolerance and the eradication of prejudice. It's not like I don't know what it's like to have prejudice aimed at me. I'm an obese woman with mental health problems. I've had morons be prejudiced against me. You don't see me whining about 'thin privilege' or 'mentally stable privilege'. For Christ's sake. What I believe in is freedom of speech.

It's just fascism that fools itself into thinking it's doing it for noble reasons. Fuck off.

Bah.

Yes. No doubt the response to my last post would be the "you don't get to dictate how the oppressed react" argument.

First, you're not oppressed. (General you). You live in a rich western country where you can vote your government in and out, both local and national. You will not be killed for expressing the wrong opinion, you will not be imprisoned for political dissidence. You have freedom of speech, you can say whatever you like on the internet, you can publish books, you can stand at Hyde Park Corner or wherever and shout what you like through a megaphone. You have the right to protest.

Having to face prejudice does not equal oppression-in a free country, you have the right to fight back. The truly oppressed have no means of defence or attack. Talk to someone in North Korea about how 'oppressed' you are because someone said something stupid about you on a message board. They would not be impressed. Really. Facing prejudice sucks, it's extremely unpleasant and by all means it's right to oppose it. But it's not "oppression".

Oh but I don't get to make this argument because I'm "privileged".Then what's the point of talking in the first place? Yes, everybody has different life experiences. But that doesn't cancel out someone's honest opinion. I've had people my whole life basically telling me to 'get over' the bullying I had as a child which has left me with the mental health problems I have now. They weren't there, they didn't experience what I did. They don't know what the hell they are saying. I suppose that's the "privilege" concept. You see, those people telling me to 'get over it' are talking out of their arse. But I wouldn't dream of saying they don't have the right to say that. They do. It's just a fucking stupid opinion is all.

Everybody has an opinion about how x should have reacted to y. You can bleat about 'oppression' and 'privilege' all you like. But the fact is, that's just the way it is and you will never change that. In Ivory Tower Academia you can do this, and control people in this way (at least what they say publically, in private, with trusted people, you will find things are a bit less self censored. And the PC Fascists will be regarded with contempt, to say the least.) In the real world, however you soon get a reputation as a holier than thou humourless idiot.

I was on fire with idealism when I was a kid. All it got me was lonelier and even more of an outcast. I tried to call out prejudice. No prejudice was fought. No one changed their mind. It just got me even more ridiculed and contempt. And I already had enough to sink the bloody Titanic. Talk about futile.

PC Fascism is just a great big squealing self centred toddler having a tantrum.

People have a right to their thoughts and opinions. Even if you don't like them.

Oh god idiocy abounded on scans daily. Like that time there was a page showing all of Spider Man's love interests over the years and each one said what she thought of Peter Parker. Except Gwen Stacy. She said nothing because she was dead. Now I thought that was beautiful and eloquent. The dead, are indeed, silenced. They can't say anything...because they are dead! Duh!

And this ranting PC fascist goes oh Gwen is silent therefore she's been silenced because she's a woman! And I'm like er no...she's silent because she's dead! All the other living female characters can talk because they're alive! If there had been a dead male character there he would have been quiet too.....but no, because Gwen is female it's a big male oppression against women!

Bull fucking Shit.

The world. Full of Morons. Not news, I know.
